Conclusion

The 2026 Europe Easter Index declined 8.36% YOY to €5,277.57/MT, delivering substantial relief across chocolate and bakery commodities.

Cocoa prices collapsed 64.1% YOY following a dramatic correction from April 2024 peaks, while the Bakery index fell 35.92% YOY as wheat declined 10.17% YOY and butter dropped 39.9% YOY.

These declines outweighed a 5.47% YOY increase in the Protein index, where beef surged 15% YOY and salmon and cod rose 18.1% and 17.5% respectively, amid constrained supply. Beef prices climbed due to limited cattle availability and strong seasonal demand, while lamb benefited from aligned Ramadan-Easter demand despite constrained domestic supply.

Egg prices increased 8.3% YOY as disease pressures and cage-free supply constraints persisted.

Overall, the substantial index decline potentially signals consumer savings on Easter treats, but pressure on consumers' food expenses will continue to be influenced by factors such as supply chain disruptions and geopolitics.
