Potatoes

The Expana Benchmark Prices for Maris Piper packing potatoes in the UK declined by 57% Y-O-Y in early December 2025 to £0.15/kg, amid high supply and low demand.

The UK’s 2025/26 potato season is heavily contracted amid oversupply, limiting free-buy demand and weighing on prices. The market is quiet in the run-up to the Christmas season, according to market sources, who add that arrangements for December trade are generally in place, with stocks already selected. Sources have raised quality concerns about Maris Piper, which have led to a price uptick in recent weeks, but this has yet to translate into sustained price increases. Sources have also highlighted uncertainty about the longevity of some crops, with no change in market conditions anticipated heading into next year.

Carrots

UK carrot prices increased by 8.3% Y-O-Y to £0.52/kg in November 2025.

Following a season of heavy rain in 2024, the 2025 season was hit by hot and dry conditions earlier in the year. Some farmers reported a drop in yields, and irrigation infrastructure was pushed to capacity in some areas. Industry participants have described extreme and unpredictable weather events as an ongoing concern.

Parsnips

The price of UK parsnips increased by 7.6% Y-O-Y to £1.13/kg in November 2025.

UK parsnip availability is generally considered stable, according to industry participants. As with other root vegetables, crops were hit by heatwaves earlier in the year, and sources have stated that increased rainfall would be beneficial. That said, they anticipate no availability concerns, and although prices are up Y-O-Y, they have generally been on a declining trend in recent months.
